Infested Pine Tree Identification survey

by

EH&S Department

The N.O.M.E.S EH&S team recently concluded a survey to identify the location and size of all pine trees infested with Pine Sawyer bark beetle. This vegetation survey was conducted over the MCB Butler installations of Camp Lester, Camp Foster, Camp Courtney, Kin Blue Beach and Henoko ASP.

After identifying a tree as infected, the N.O.M.E.S. EH&S team labeled, measured (diameter and height) and recorded the tree’s geographic coordinates using a handheld GPS device. The N.O.M.E.S. GIS team then mapped the locations of infested trees across the five different installations.
